writing
otherworldy truths / statement

It started out as a list of every “thing” I found beautiful, then as concepts and specific scenarios started to enter the list, it turned into a kind of rubric in my studio for subject matter and materials to amalgamate. A friend and teacher of mine once told me that when you look at something and think “that’s beautiful,” it’s an otherworldly truth being told to you. What a romantic fuckin’ thought! That’s what made me start doing it.

Otherworldly Truths:
Long dinner tables with food, canned goods, the shape of a spider, Bonneville racecars, carhoods, blimps, pirate ships, gargoyles, tv static, Californian freeway clusters, snowmen, fake inflatable snowmen in CA, cuts of raw meat, the cargo of semi-trucks, the desert, signage, Marina City, state flags, flags of any kind really, empty movie theater seats, animal bones, watertowers, the blackness of tunnels, the surface of wax, the way they made sneakers perfectly in the late 90s, fish market stalls, satellite imagery of suburbs, the lyrics of Isaac Brock, big amplifier stacks, coffins, the concept of unconditional love, lemon-themed merchandise, the haunting writing of Meiko Kawakami, turtle shells all the way down, corduroy, flannel, cereal, stickers on a skateboard, stickers on a Fender Telecaster, Fender Telecasters, skid marks, longsleeves on short arms, pidgeons that act like people, toast, piles of laundry, castors on things that don’t need castors, last words & moonlight.
