Ain’t-merica II, 2025 - Ongoing
A fabricated, alternative retelling of U.S. history was written to inform the manufacturing of various objects, artworks, performances, and paraphernalia (including state flags, state pride apparel, license plates, citizen documentation, contemporary artwork, food, music & local news segments) that all hint at an oddly unacquainted version of America that doesn’t exist, studying the potential for parody to exist as a love letter, and not necessarily critique. Photographic components, and music & scoring were made in collaboration with Lile Kvantaliani, and Jordan Mageo, respectively.

Famed Linconite artist, Luna Sweetwater, was once cited in a 1970 ARTFORUM issue to have favorited the family restaurant, the Eggscelent Shack, in Berryland, LI, which she constantly frequents. The following dishes are the three least ordered items from the restaurant’s menu, one of which is the artist’s favorite meal to eat.

In 1973, at a major retrospective in MoMA NY, Luna Sweetwater unveiled her performance-art alter ego, as a persona created to tackle a separate creative practice involving found objects, food performance, and heavy consumerist critique. Amongst the work in the exhibition stood out a sculptural self portrait of the artist’s alternate personality, Tart Vader, which was a slightly altered, comedic bust of George Lucas’ infamous space opera villain, crafted with aluminum, automobile paint, whipped cream & maraschino cherries. Sweetwater donned this very same mask to perform various acts of artistic and political intervention from 1969 - 72.

Ever since the mid-60s, Moontoona has remained an influential hub for cosmic country and mountain folk music, forever changing the course of American music history. Famed singer-songwritters, Buck Galactic and Zara Starlight, gained cult followings and became the artists we know them as today during this period, regional radio promoting the term “Moontoonan melodies” to describe their unique echoing and wide‑sky sound. In the summer of 1968, Galactic and Starlight met at a musicians ranch gathering and formed an immediate kinship leading to their partnership and the recording of their EP, Galactic Chuckwagon. While Starlight put her Moontoonan roots at the forefront of each recording in both style and sway, Galactic found room to embed tales of his North Dakotan upbringing and Midwestern sensibility in tracks that introduced loose harmonica improvisation and voltaic, simplified slide guitar that put a new spin on traditional northern mountain music. While Galactic-Starlight have been known and respected for award-winning albums like Glendive Unskinned and Blood in the Bathroom, the earliest traces of their brilliance are put on full display in their 2-track rough demo recorded in the Makoshika Badlands, Galactic Chuckwagon. This limited release EP is one of only a couple hundred original copies in existence, put on display with the original guitar Starlight wrote the track “Blizzards in May” with.
